Luz y Vanguardias has announced a contest open to artists and national and foreign companies engaged in the field of production and audio-visual creation, and video mapping.

The festival has requested to link the rich historical, cultural and architectural past of the city with demonstrations of artistic and technical nature based on light and directly linked to the contemporaneity and the XXI century.

Participants in the competition must create a work adapted to the architecture of a historic building in Salamanca, this time the City Hall, on which the works in competition will be projected.


The competition has a prize of 15,000 euros for the winner work chosen by the jury. The City Council, on the occasion of the 800 anniversary of the University of Salamanca, will award a 5,000 euros special prize to the runner up.

Lourdes-Fernández 2

Lourdes Fernández

Lourdes Fernández Fernández is the international curator of Light and Avant-garde Arts. She currently is the director of Azkuna Zentroa, a contemporary art and culture center located in Bilbao.  Likewise she is part of the Foundation board of the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid.

Throughout her career she has directed several international contemporary art projects as DV Gallery (Diario Vasco) in San Sebastian, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art Manifiesta 5, and the International Contemporary Art Fair of Madrid ARCO (2006-2010). She has also been the creator, along with the heads of the Vocento Group, of the Museo de Dibujo e Ilustración de ABC  Madrid. In addition she was founder of the Artingenium company, Artistic Engineering, a company dedicated to the production of international contemporary art projects. Until 2010 she was part of the jury of the Príncipe de Asturias Award, in the Arts area.

Alicia Aza

Jury President. She is Vice President of the Private Collectors Association of Contemporary Art 9915 and has also contributed to the development of video art and participated with her collection for exhibitions at MUSAC in 2005 or at the Lázaro Galdiano Foundation in 2013.

In her role as a writer and poet, Aza has published the poetry books “El libro de los árboles” (The Book of Trees) which was honored as finalist at the “Premio Andalucía de la Crítica 2011”; “El viaje del invierno” (Winter Journey) won the International Poetry Award “Rosalia de Castro 2011”, and “ Las huellas fértiles” (The fertile footprints). She has also published the silkscreen edition “La estación fría” (The cold season), illustrated by the painter Francisco Escalera.

Her literary work has been included in several international anthologies.

In the field of narrative, she is the author of several short stories that have been published in various literary magazines. Her poetry has been translated into Italian, Serbian, French, Bulgarian and English.

Alicia AZA

Manuel Campo Vidal

Manuel Campo Vidal is a Spanish journalist and television presenter, media manager and sociologist. He chairs, since 2006, the Sciences and Arts of Television Academy of Spain. In addition he is the managing director and CEO of the producer company Lua Multimedia, president of the Next International Business School and director of the Business Communication Institute.

He was elected to moderate the first face-to face electoral debate between Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba and Mariano Rajoy, organized by the Academy of Television in 2011, and broadcasted by 20 television channels, likewise he moderated the debate that took place on December 2015 between Mariano Rajoy and Pedro Sanchez.

He has an Ondas Award (1989) for his work as head of “Punto y aparte”, and two “TP de Oro”, corresponding to 1985 and 1986 for Best Presenter, coinciding with him being the news anchor at the “Telediario”. He has the Emilio Castelar distinction (2011) for his communicative efficiency, prize awarded by the government of Cadiz.

Mª Jesús Diez Miguel

She is the representative of Salamanca in the Consultative Committee of the “Fundación Villalar de las Cortes de Castilla y León given her relevant career linked in the fields of culture, exhibitions and contemporary art.

In 2004 she was part of the Salamanca City of Culture and Knowledge Foundation and joined the DA2 Domus Artium 2002 contemporary arts center as an exhibition and conservation technician of the team’s collections.

Since 2012 she is the coordinator and responsible of programming at Salamanca’s DA2. In this period the center has held exhibitions of outstanding artists and has shown collections such as the MUSAC’s of Leon or the ARTIUM’s of Vitoria. From the DA2 she has a close relationship with the University of Salamanca and the city’s contemporary art galleries, local artists and cultural centers.

Mª Jesús Díez Miguel has participated as a jury in numerous awards including the Cortes de Cádiz, Lienzo Museo Patio Herreriano, Premio de Pintura de la Gaceta or Premios San Marcos of the Fine Arts Faculty in Salamanca.


Luis Gómez Rodríguez

He is the Brand and Corporate Reputation Director in Iberdrola, where he has more than thirteen years of experience. He is also marketing professor at IEDE, member of the Corporate Excellence board, member of the Renowned Brands Forum Direction Committee and president of the Media Commission of the Spanish Association of Advertisers.

Luis Gómez Rodríguez has developed his career in the commercial and marketing areas at consumer goods companies such as Johnson & Johnson. After that he spent more than eight years in the field of advertising, in the British agency Saatchi and Saatchi Advertising where he became CEO of operations for Spain. He has been general sales manager of Flex and deputy general director of Cortefiel, in addition he was partner and shareholder of a Purchase Central of Advertising media.

Alberto Mariñas

He is the director of the Festival of Light and Avant-garde Arts, as well as director of Estudio de Comunicación, the Festival’s organizer. He has previously been chief press officer of the Ministry of Culture, communications director of the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, communications director of the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid and press officer of the Madrid Autumn Festival. He is also an expert in photography and image processing and has been the curator of several exhibitions, as well as author of texts for catalogs and articles about photography.

Alberto Mariñas

From June 14th at 22.30 pm to June 17th at 1 am, 2018, the audience will be able to vote at the website for their favourite work amongst those projected on the facade of Salamanca’s City Hall.


The company with the highest number of votes at 1 am on June 17th, 2018, will be declared the Audience Award winner and will receive a prize of 3,000 euros.
